Crispy, golden wontons filled with a savory cream cheese mixture, air-fried to perfection for a quick, oil-light snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons chopped scallions
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 large egg
  • Cooking spray
  • Sweet chili sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring the cream cheese to room temperature.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together cream cheese, chopped scallions, soy sauce, and garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Whisk the egg in a small bowl to make an egg wash for sealing.
  4. Lay wonton wrappers on a clean surface and drop about 1 teaspoon of filling into the center of each wrapper.
  5. Dip your finger in the egg wash and brush it lightly around the edges of each wrapper.
  6. Fold the four corners up to meet in the center and press firmly along the seams to seal. Alternatively, fold each wrapper corner-to-corner to form a triangle if desired.
  7. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (182°C).
  8. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange wontons in a single layer with space between them.
  9. Lightly spray the tops of the wontons with cooking spray.
  10. Air fry at 360°F for 8 to 10 minutes until golden and crispy, shaking the basket or turning trays halfway through cooking.

Notes

Use cream cheese at room temperature for smooth filling that’s easy to spoon., Use about 1 teaspoon of filling per wonton to prevent leaks and ensure easy sealing., Brush edges with egg wash or water and press seams firmly to seal tightly., Preheat air fryer before cooking for best crispness., Do not overcrowd air fryer basket; hot air circulation is key for even crisping., Shake or turn wontons halfway through cooking for even browning., Use a light spray of cooking oil to achieve a golden brown crust without heaviness., Thin wonton wrappers create the best crispiness; thicker wrappers may require longer cooking time., Wontons can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead and stored refrigerated or frozen up to one month., Cook frozen wontons by adding 2 to 4 extra minutes to air frying time., Reheat cooked wontons in air fryer or oven to maintain crispness; avoid microwaving to prevent sogginess., Sweet chili, sweet and sour, or soy-vinegar dipping sauces pair well with these wontons.
