  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. Thinly slice 4–5 medium potatoes.
  3. Chop 1 medium onion and mince 2 cloves garlic.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Add 1 lb ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes; drain excess fat if needed.
  6. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook 3–4 minutes until onions are softened and translucent.
  7. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  8. Layer the thin potato slices evenly over the beef and season with salt, pepper, dried Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan evenly over the potatoes.
  10. Pour beef broth or water around the edges of the dish and drizzle milk over the top if using.
  11. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  12. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  13. Let the casserole rest about 5 minutes before slicing.
  14. Sprinkle fresh parsley on top if desired.
